Jewish Budapest

Dohány Street Synagogue (Neolog): The largest synagogue in Europe, featuring Moorish Revival architecture. The complex includes the Jewish Museum, the Holocaust Memorial Tree, and the ghetto cemetery. Trade-off: Typically high traffic, the entrance ticket price is high, and entry is time-consuming.

Kazinczy Street Synagogue (Orthodox): The center of the Budapest Orthodox community, an Art Nouveau building. Trade-off: Smaller and less tourist-focused than the Dohány Street Synagogue.

Rumbach Street Synagogue (Status Quo Ante): A recently renovated Moorish Revival building, which currently functions as a modern cultural and exhibition space alongside its religious role.

Shoes on the Danube Bank: A historical monument located south of Parliament on the Pest embankment, commemorating the victims shot into the river by the Arrow Cross militiamen. It can be visited free of charge 24 hours a day.

The wall of the Pest ghetto: The last original sections of the ghetto wall erected in 1944 can be found in the inner courtyards of apartment buildings in District VII (e.g., 15 Király utca), and a reconstructed memorial wall is visible next to Dohány utca.

Beverage consumption in general bars: The food (bar food) served in standard Budapest pubs is not kosher. Visitors adhering to strict rules can consume unflavored, clear spirits (e.g., clear vodkas, gins, 100% agave tequila) and standard light beers in general bars, based on international kosher lists.
Trade-off: Hungarian wines, cognacs, whiskies aged in sherry casks, and herbal liqueurs with secret recipes are strictly prohibited without a kosher seal.
