When to Visit: Seasonal Compromises

Quick First Layer
(Expandable Boxes)

Practical Profiles of the Seasons

1. Summer (June – August): Heatwaves and Festivals

Long days; the majority of outdoor venues and terraces operate at full capacity.
Compromises ▾

2. Winter (December – February): Christmas Markets and Closures

Short days (sunset around 16:00), cold and windy weather. In December, Christmas markets are prominent in the downtown squares.

3. Transitional Seasons (Spring and Autumn)

April-May and September-October. Temperatures are typically more suitable for long city walks, and crowds are generally smaller than in the summer high season.

Holiday closures:
During the long weekends of Easter, Pentecost, and Christmas, a significant portion of shops and services remain closed. These calendar specifics must be factored into planning, as city logistics slow down considerably during these times (refer to the section on Opening Hours, Holidays & Closures).
Climate shift:
In recent years, summer heatwaves frequently extend into mid-September, and the number of classic, snowy winter days has noticeably decreased. Historical weather averages (temperature statistics) are becoming less reliable for planning.
